TRRC
The Tacoma Rifle Revolver Club is Washington's oldest shooting facility. Public competitions were held on our grounds long before the Washington Territory was admitted to the Union in 1889. We are proud of our long tradition of providing a safe place for the shooting sports, a home for both world-class competitors, as well as the casual "plinker."
We are a community club--we welcome and encourage new membership. Responsible, safety-oriented gun owners and their families are welcome to attend a new membership information tour and safety orientation held every Saturday at 9:30 AM. |

TR&R BE League - Friday Evening Squadding
We started the TR&R Friday evening league last week and had 18 shooters on the line for the first relay. We can accommodate 21 shooters on the line. There will be 2 relays with start time at 5pm and 6pm. To ensure you have spot and we have a smooth and timely start for the matches:
- You may sign up ahead to reserve a spot on the line
- E-mail me your name and which relay you want to shoot (even which firing point). Send to: wyhom@earthlink.net.
- Be sure to show at least 10 minutes prior to start of the match to retain your spot (otherwise, first come first serve)
- Please arrive with enough time for you to get a target and set it up at the 50 yd line prior to the line being called "no-longer-safe" for prep-time. (If you know you will be late and will show during "prep-time" or even during the "Slow Fire" portion, let me know and I'll get a target set up for you.)
Note: For additional info regarding the Bullseye League, please see below.
Thanks for the great showing.

What is Bullseye?
Bullseye is the informal name for NRA Conventional Outdoor or Indoor Pistol Competition. At TRRC, we shoot Outdoor Conventional matches at distances of 25 and 50 yards. It is shooting done using one hand, and consists of slow fire, timed fire, and rapid fire. Matches can be as few as 30 rounds or as many as 270 rounds. The matches are fired using .22 caliber rimfire, centerfire, and .45 ACP handguns. Holsters and laser sights are not used but just about any* safe handgun may be employed. See below for the course of fire.
At TRRC we focus on using “competition” (matches) as a vehicle to provide marksmanship training. Our matches are both a means to allow shooters to measure their marksmanship skills and a venue to learn from fellow shooters.
Please come out and participate. You will be pleasantly surprised how challenging this sport is and how well you will shoot in other disciplines from the skills developed shooting Bullseye.
Course of Fire (Outdoor)
NRA Conventional Pistol Competition consists of firing slow, timed, and rapid fire. Outdoors, this is done at 25 and 50 yards. Generally, an outdoor match will consist of 20 shots, slow fire at 50 yards (2 10-shot strings, 10 minutes per string), 20 shots, timed fire at 25 yards (4 5-shot strings, 20 seconds per string), 20 shots, rapid fire at 25 yards (4 5-shot strings, 10 seconds per string), and the National Match Course (10-shots, slow fire at 50 yards, 10-shots timed fire, and 10-shots rapid fire). This match consists of 90 shots for a possible aggregate total of 900 points.
For a “2700” aggregate this match is fired once with each gun; .22 caliber rimfire, centerfire, and .45 caliber. There are four matches for each firearm:
A slow-fire match: 20 shots, usually at 50 yards, in 10-shot strings, 10 minutes per string.
A timed-fire match: 20 shots at 25 yards, in 5-shot strings, 20 seconds per string.
A rapid-fire match: 20 shots at 25 yards, in 5 shot strings, 10 seconds per string.
A National Match Course: 10 shots slow fire, 10 shots timed fire, and 10 shots rapid fire.
If you have any questions, please contact the Pistol Competition Chairman, Bob Hom, wyhom@earthlink.net.
See you on the Range!
* Note: For NRA “Approved” and “Registered” matches, there are rules on equipment authorized. For more information, visit the NRA website and download the rule book.

TRRC Notice of Dues Increase
Please be advised that at the 2010 annual business meeting, held on May 21st, the dues structure for TRRC membership has changed. Effective immediately, the fees for incoming new members will be $150 plus a one-time $35 initiation fee, for a total of $185 for the first year of membership.
Existing members that renew in calendar year 2010 will be charged the $140 rate.
However, beginning Jan 1, 2011, the renewal rate for all members will be $150, but the maximum allowable credit hours will increase from 8 to 10 hours. This means the minimum amount that all members will pay will now be $50 per year. Therefore, "working" members could actually end up paying $10 less per year than before.
TRRC Notices
- TRRC is affiliated with the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP), thereby allowing our members to purchase surplus military Garands, Springfields, ammunition, etc. To see what is being offered for sale and at what price, simply visit their web site at odcmp.org. You may even want to register and have them email you of new inventory. In order to purchase, you'll need to pick up a signed copy of the CMP Club Member Certification Form, available only on Saturday mornings (9:00-10:30 AM) at the membership trailer.
- The TRRC Hunter Education program is in need of 22-caliber rifles, semiautomatic pistols, and double-action revolvers to use in their many training sessions and field days. If you have such items that are in safe mechanical condition and would like to donate same, please get in touch with Tani Iwashita, the HE Coordinator, at 253-720-7720. Or, if you'd like to make a cash donation for the purchase of these weapons, I'm sure your donations would be more than welcomed.
- Lastly, remember that until March 15th, 2010, all renewals must be done in person at the membership trailer office. Volunteers are there every Saturday morning to process the renewals 9:00-10:30 AM. Checks sent in by mail will and are being returned. We'll ask you to fill out and sign a new "blue" card of contact information and provide one piece of photo ID such as a driver's license or military ID.
Volunteers Needed for Work Party
The club could always use some volunteers. So if any of you are able and willing to work on iissues, we'd appreciate hearing from you ASAP. Naturally you'll get the usual credit of $10/hr toward dues renewal (or your renewal dates extended), and the costs of any supplies will be reimbursed. The ideal approach would be to assemble all volunteers at the work site at on a particular date and time, maybe on a weekend, to agree on a scope of work and schedule.
Volunteers should reply to Shooter by email ( shooter@tacomarifle.org ) or call either Jim Schock (253-381-4800) or Norm Dion (253-565-2753).
New Range Rules Posted
The TRRC Range Rules, as approved by the Board of Directors on 11 Mar 09, is now available here.
Wanted: Basic Handgun Safety Instructor
Wanted: A dedicated and knowledgeable individual to assume the responsibility of teaching TRRC's basic handgun safety course to both members and nonmembers. This individual would need to be an NRA-certified instructor and be willing to assume these duties on a long-term basis.
Interested parties should contact the club by phone (253-566-1341) or email shooter@tacomarifle.org.
Safety Notice
Members, it is very important that you sign in with your name and your badge number before shooting. This is for your protection as well as the TRRC. You'll notice the steel plates that are placed on the opposite side of the six by ten beams above the exit of the pistol shooting range towards the targets. These are for safety reasons so that the bullets will not wonder into the air.
- There is no cowboy shooting or fast drawing and shooting allowed. These rules are to protect our membership. If caught doing so, you may be terminated from membership! So beware! The Tacoma Rifle and Revolver ranges are for the shooting and usage of safe shooters. You'll also notice the following signs that have been posted recently at the different ranges. Follow these also or you may be in the same situation.
Members, you all need to follow safe shooting practices. One of those is to remove your magazine on your pistols and rifles and open your chamber when others are placing their targets or replacing their targets. This is a practice that appears to have fallen by the wayside in the past. Some of the new members are not aware of this regulation.
- Another is to not point your pistol or rifle at another as you "swing" around while just moving or talking to another. It doesn't matter if your gun is loaded or not! One of the rules that some are not following is that you have a tendency to go out in front of the 'shooting tables' that are set up and shoot from there. The rule of the range is that you shoot from or behind them, not in front. If you are found going in front of these to shoot, you also may be asked to speak to the board of directors.
- There are six video cameras strategically located throughout the range. The presence of TRRC members are videotaped at the different ranges and on the property and electronically sent to several of the board members residences as they are being monitored. Remember, you are responsible for your guests that you bring onto the range.
Got Email? Are You on Our Email List?
If you are, you would have gotten an email from us in the last 30 days, telling you about work parties, range schedule changes, and that this newsletter was coming.
If not, please sign up! Drop an email to Shooter@TacomaRifle.org. That's all it takes! And we'll keep you up to date on any last-minute range schedule changes or interesting developments.
